Australia is the largest island, and the 6th largest country in the world. In spite of this large land mass; the population of Australia is only 24 million (and growing) with a culturally diverse population mostly concentrated in the capital cities. Melbourne and Sydney are the largest cities in Australia with nearly 40% of the county’s entire population. Other popular Cities include the nation’s capital Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Darwin.
Diverse Scenery
Australia has a diverse landscape that ranges from tropical, subtropical and cool temperate rainforests to sandy white beaches and snow covered Alps. It’s surrounded by amazing beaches, surfing, fishing, cattle stations, city skyscrapers and an endless outback of desert that covers one- third of Australia’s entire land mass! With swimming, skiing and shopping- Australia has an environment to suit everyone’s personal taste.
Distinctive native animals
Australia has a plethora of distinctive and unique ancient animals, including the platypus, kangaroo, echidna and koala; as well as deadly snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies! Australia has no less than 516 national parks to protect its native wilderness.
International Rankings don’t lie : International students continue to flock to Australia as their preferred study destination. Here’s why.
Melbourne #1 and Sydney #2 student cities
Melbourne and Sydney were respectively ranked 1st and 2nd in the QS best Student Cities Ranking 2018 (Student Mix Rank). Australia has ranked 8th in the best environment in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2017 Worldwide Education for the Future Index overall results. Australia is also ranked 9th in the world 2017 Legulum Prosperity Index.
Australia remains one of the top study destinations for international students. It provides an amazing environment to study and is a popular travel destination. Students can explore the wide range of amazing attractions the country has to offer, including bustling cities, scenic beaches, and delicious food.
So it’s no surprise Australia’s growth trajectory is among the fastest in the world. The US and UK currently see the highest number of total foreign student enrolment, but Australia sees a whopping 13% enrolment growth, year over year.
Over 90% of students surveyed said the reputation of universities, coupled with quality teaching and research, were the top reasons why they chose to study in Australia.
The recent Times Higher Education World University rankings further supports this idea. Australia scored 4th in terms of best representation in the prestigious rankings’ Top 200.
The Australian government recognises the importance of this critical industry and has announced a series of visa changes (seen as some of the most flexible in the world) to support international students.
The Australian government will also be ensuring that there is ample opportunity to obtain a post-study work visa. This expands to applicants from outside Australia, as well as additional time to provide language results and other credentials.
